MASTERTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
(BY TELEGBArit. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT,) ■ Masterton,'May-15.. The monthly meeting, of tho Chamber of Commerce .was'.hold this sftdrrooii: the members present being: Messrs. H. Mason (President), J. D. Cruickshank, E. H. Waddington, W. E. Chamberlain, and 11., H. Donald.' The credit balance at bank was £2 6s. 2d. Mr. J. T. M. Horns|>y, M;P.,.wrote in reference to tho; opening up .of the Wliarcama River .by means of a road to. landing lcservc, urging tho Chamber to put. the'.matter to the test with tho Masterton County Council, so that further steps might be taken, ir necessary, during the ensuing session of Parliament. Mr. Cruickshank moved, and Mr. Waddington seconded;: that tho Masterton County Council ,be. requested to take steps to open up, if possible,' the road to tho Whareama. , This was carried. One new member'was elected. Tho proposed railway lino from Masterton to Waipukurau, via Pongaroa, was referred to. Mr. J. D...Cruickshank saiclit was a good thing to keep tho. matter before tho public. The question was of great importance to. the district. Tho chairman .said as ho _ had been informed by a prominent politician that tho residents* of Eketahuna wero going to. move heaven and earth to have the line connected with Eketahuna, ho recognised the. necessity of, furthering tho project, and to havo the terminus at Masterton. A forward move should bo made, lie thought, when .Parliament opened. After further discussion, Mr. Cruickshank moved that the Waipukurau branch of the Leaguo be written to and asked.to appoint delegates to visit Wellington with the chosen members of tho Masterton Chamber of Commerce and wait upon the Ministor for. Railways to urge tho necessity of carrying out the lino. This was carried unanimously.
