Hetty Green, the millionaire financier, unless sho pays tho Society a> thousand pounds.. Defectives are watching Mrs. Green's ' A REIGN OF TERROR. ■ , Writing under dato February 9, the New York correspondent, of "The : Times" states that New York is not free from horrors which baffle tho police and defy tho law... "The socalled ' Black Hand' outrages, which began some two years ago, and which at one time were supposed to ,be ended, • have recently increased in number and violence. Bomb explosions, by which buildings have been wrecked and injury, has been dono to" property'and human life, have \become 'ail almost daily occurrence. These crimes are believed to bo principally perpetrated by Italians, and have reached such a point as to warrant emergency measures against the fiendish criminals who begin by blackmail and extortion, and end with the destruction of property ■ arid life, instilling terror into Italian Americans. The outrages are believod not now to be confined to Italians nor to this city. The organisation has spread to New' Orleans, San Francisco, Chicago, Pittsburg, Baltimore, and Washington.
