SUPREME COURT. IN BANCO. A WANGANUI ACTION. INVALIDITY OF A LEASE. Mr. Justice Cooper held a sitting in Banco yesterday morning, when tho case between John M'Gregor and John Stobie was concluded. This was an action tried at Wanganui in February last, in which the plaintiff claimed £270 and £75 from the defendant, being the price of a lease purchased'' by the plaintiff from the defendant, to which the landlord's consent had not been.'obtained,'and which was put an end to in consequence. Counterclaims were lodged amounting to £283 2s. Id. in respect of rent paid an.l costs incurred by the defendant in previous proceedings in defending the lease. At tho hearing of the case at Wanganui. Mr. Justice Cooper, at the reouest of defendant's counsel, reserved severaf questions for argument in Wellington. The defendant now consented to judgment for £270 and £31 7S. for costs, and judgment was entered accordingly. Mr. Young appeared on behalf of plaintiff, and dcrendant's courisol did not appear, but filed a consent.

A young woman was-charged (1) with importuning, and (2) with being deemed to be an idle and disorderly person within the moaning of tho Police Offences Act, 1884, in that she had insufficient lawful means of support. Defendant ploadcd guilty to the first charge, and hot guilty to the second. Mr. Jackson appeared for the defence, and' pleaded strongly for a chance for his client, who had, ho said; boon working at a boardinghouso iinco February. Defendant was prepared I>o go to a relative in Palmerston if tho Court would give her the opportunity. His Worship convicted accused on each charge, and ordec&i her to come up for c-entence whem .called upon, on condition that she went into the Salvation Army Home for three'months. " FORGERY. '• Ernest Wehrstedt was charged, that on April 14, at Mamakii, he forged the name of Ernest Southwick to a telegram to pile "Southwick, Levin." : - Wm. Andrews, postal clerk, produced a telegram put ill at Mamiku, near Rotorua, on April 14, also a receipt for a money-order telegram for £4, remitted by J. H. Southwick, of LoVin, to Ernest SoutWick, Mamaku, on April 14. Tho receipt bore the signature of Ernest Southwick as payee. • Joseph H. Sjouthwick,' chemist, Levin, deposed that he received a Copy of the telegram ■ produowl, and remitted tho £-4, thinking the ! telogram was from liis brother at Mamaku. Wm. Ernest'Southwick, clcrt, Wellington,' deposed that lie knew the accused. - Witness Was at Rotorua from April 9 to 14/ and met accused. Accused , had no authority to send a- telegram for witness. Detective B rob erg deposed that in May ho charged accused with the offence, . oil-which he was now before the Court. Accused admitted sending the telegram ,and roceiving the money. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court f6r sentence. MISCELLANEOUS. ■ A young man itained Percy Faulkner,' a ; pony jeekey, appeared in answer to a. charge of having,- on April- 25,' at .WOrser Bay attempted to Commit a serious offence against a girl under tho age of 12 years. ' After the evidence had been taken, ataused pleaded ghilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence."' , for., druhkeiuiess, Oscar Palin was convicted 1 and fifted lOs.j ill default, .48 hours' imprisonment. Five • first' offenders .were bl'oiight forward, two being 'Convicted and fihed 55., iri default, 24 hours' imprisonment, apd- three being convicted and discharged.
