SOCIAL AND PERSONAL.

There were a great many people present at tho dance given on Tuesday evening in tho Sydney Street Schoolroom by tho Kiwi Ladies' Hockey, Club, and many of these peoplo woro very youthful. It was a jolly tianco and'much enjoyed by all. Tho stage was decorated with ferns and bowls of yellow chrysanthemums, and all about were disposed hockey sticks, which, liko tho long ferns, wero tied with ribbons of yellow, whito, and pale bluo, tho colours of tho Club. Tho suppor tablo was. prettily decorated with yellow chrysanthemums ancl autumn leaves, and acros-thewhitoclothwero trailed yellow and pale blue ribbohs. Among those present were: Miss' Gear, tho captain of the Club, in whito silk; Miss Knox, in a very pretty frcck of palo bluo taffetas; Miss Doughty, in bright pink silk; Miss Reno Jameson, yellow frock; Miss D. Holmes, paid bluo silk; Miss E. Holmes, 1 white muslin; Miss Lucas, whito frcck; Miss Freda Martin, ceriso taffetas and gold beads in her hair; Miss D. Webb, whito muslin;'-Miss' Callender (Invercargill),. pink frock; Miss Heywood, palo blue frock vHt-h trimmings of goid tissue; Miss B. .Fitzgerald, whito silk frcck with palo blue bolt and pink rose; Miss Poynter, palo blue silk; 'Miss Letham, pale heliotrope frock; Miss Leda Lee,, ■white;' Miss Matthews, pa]e_ heliotrope wjth hem of deeper shade, the bodicV trimmed with beautiful sequined lace,l and bands of velvet; and Messrs; Chapman, Ward, Lawrence, Sellers, Sutton, Nancarrow, Lang, Archibald, Simpson, Hannah, Jacobs, Poynter, Peacock, Bridge, Neave, Griffiths, and King. Yesterday afternoon Miss Duncan gave a small afternoon tea in honour of. Mrs. A. H. Buchanan. -■ Our Masterton correspondent writes:—The wedding of Mr; N. R. Jones, of Kurupuni, and. Miss Muriel Allsworth, daughter of the lato Mr. W. H. Allsworth, of Masterton, was celebrated yesterday afternoon in the Methodist Church, Kurupuni. The Misses M. ind P. Allsworth and E. Jones Were bridesmaids, and Mr. A. Rigg. .best mail, and Mr. E.. Jones- groomsman. Tho ceremony was, performed by tho Rev. J. A. N; Buttle.
