Sir, —Your correspondent "Disgusted" in to-day's issue of The Dominion seeks to blaino the Temperance party for Mr., Aitken's non-success at the recent Mayoral election. Prom the torio of his letter I can hardly believe "Disgusted" to be a sincere wollwisher of-tho Temperanco movement.' I should rather judge him to bo a cunning enom'y trying by his letter to discredit tho party; or, if not an enemy, ho is a disappointed aspirant for the Temperanco party's support at some bygone election. I would ask, why blam'o tho Alliance? If blamo belongs to anyono, it should surely bo laid' at tho dcor of tho local League. Tho Alliance, acts for the colony, not for Wellington in particular. Again, is, not " Disgusted" aware that Miv Aitken,. against his wish, came out at the. 'imperative demand of Messrs. Duthie, Robertson, Nathan and Co.? Are tho Temperance people to bo dragged at the chariot wheels, of. such a combination? I hopo not. By their folly the gentlemen named sacrificed Mr. Aitken, and I hbpo they, are satisfied. Certainly 110 blame can attach to tho Temperanco peoplo, who, I believe, were never once consulted as to Mr. Aitken contesting tho election.—-I ain,- etc., ' May 11. M.O.D.
