LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
SPEED OF MOTOR CARS. Sir, —I noticed in newspapers lately that a city cabman was fined 20s. and costs for driving his cab faster than a walk round tho corner of tho Duke of Edinburgh Hotel; also before tho sanio magistrate a few weeks back at a coroner's inquiry respecting tho death of a respected young man through collision with "a motor-car, on tho road opposite tho Lower Hutt railway station. The driver of tho cm acknowledges travelling at a speed of twenty miles per. hour, but, in spit-o of this, ho was allowed to leave that, inquiry without caution, fine, or punishment. , Sir, I think the Minister for Justico should loso no time in causing all classes of vehicles to be restricted to tllo same regulations respecting speed through cities and populated places. Tho magistrate in those cases is ono of tho heist wo have in our law courts, and I am suro ho acted strictly in. accordance with the law,' which is his guide.—l am; etc., . May 12. CHAS. SIMMONDS.
