COUNTERFEITERS BUSY.
- NOTES AND .COIN IN MELBOURNE. In tracing the movements of., a man ivho had been alleged to have tried to disposo of a stolen neck, fur, • the Melbourne poliwva few days ago came upon a coiner's plant in good going order, in which counterfeit halfcrowns woro in process of manufacture. They found the suspect at a house in Carlton,'one of' l the'city suburbs. : ;In making a search,of tho house the police found plaster of Paris moulds of half-crowns.-■In .one/of the moulds was an unfinished counterfeit coin, and under a palliasse on a sofa another' spurious half-crown was. found. The police also found abids and tools forming a completo coining kit'. , ' . _ A large pumber of forged Colonial Bank £1 notes are in circulation in Melbourne, and several of them have found their way into .the hands of the detectives. The notes are photographed replicas of the genuine articles, and are -so well prepared that they might dasily deceive. Even tho colours aire duplicated by photography. The first seen of these, forged notes was at ld'st Cup time.
