ACCIDENTAL DROWNING. . Wanganui, May 11. Tho body, of-Matthew Connor, a well-known settler, wild'was drowned ill the rivci- seventeen miles above "Wanganui,- on October 16, 1907, .. was, found floating opposite. Castleeliff yesterday. At the inquest to-day a vordict pf accidental drowning was returned. : 'PATAL RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT.. , (BY TETjEGRAPII.—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) . Hastings, May 11. • An accident, with fatal results, occurred on Saturday afternoon .to a man named Michael Kirby, a butcher, residing in Victoria Road. Kirby, it appears, slipped on tho linoleum, and fell, fracturing both bones' of tho left leg below the knee. On tho advice of Dr. M'Kibbin, who-was 1 summoned, the injured man was removed to tho Napier Hospital; Drs. W. W.-Moore and Brett attended to " r the sufferer at the institution, and administered chloroform. Kirby, while under the influence of tho anaesthetio, collapsed, ■ and within half an hour was dead. Tho deceased was. a married man, 38 years! of ago. An inquest will'be held. The body of Antony do Gregorio, who was drowned as the result of a boating accident off Terawhiti on Wednesday, was found on tho beach at Oterangi lSav yesterday morning. It was, taken to the morguo. An inquest will bo held this morning. Mr. .Tamos Has ton', the well-known Wairarapa gbntlcnian rider, is at present laid up in a privato hospital at Wellington, writes our Wairarapa correspondent, owing to an injury received by him while riding Lucretius in a race on tho second day at tho Marlborough Meeting.
