Mr. Fowlda said ho liad just been'' far a trip round tho 'East Coast, whore ho supposed many of tho fathers and mothers of the pupils were. Ho \vas greatly interests in tho work done in the Jiast Coast schools, which lie had'no doubt many of tho ipujjils had been through. Thoy wero now receiving tho benefit of higher education, and he hopod thoy would, make the ruJlest ppssible use of it, so that they'might cairy its advantages back to- their own people. In this schoolthey wero taught the benefits of clean habits. Cleanliness was next to godliness, and one of the first essentials of civilisation, was • cleanliness—clean houses, cleaji bodies, and clean minds. They wanted the peoplo of New Zealand to becomo ono people, and this could only bo done by tho Maori girls and boys adopting tho best things 111 European customs, habits, and life •
