THE NEW DESTRUCTOR.
Sir, —My .interview with your, courteous representative at. the destructor last Thursday .was. held under owing to the noiso of escaping steam. . It is hardly to be wondered .at, therefore,' that there should have been a misunderstanding with regard to some of my remarks. What I said concerning the burning capacity oi the plant 'was-that the three units (each of which contain three "cells" or grates)' would together be capable of-dealing with about 170 tons of refuse instead of tho 120 tons guaranteed. I stated also that the Oity- Engineer was already devising' methods of collecting rubbish in the City.to suit tho requirements'of the new plant-. In the past the difficulty has been to dispose of the City's refuse owing to the limited capacity of the former destructor; with the new plant, howovor,'refuse becomes of value as a'fuel, and with ..cerkm exceptions, will ho eagerly, sought after.—l am, ctc.,T. C. ORMISTON CHANT.. Wellington,. April 25, 190 S. [By an oversight, publication of this jetter has been delayed.]
