VICTORIA COLLEGE DEBATING SOCIETY.
— 1— ' i A meeting of the Victoria College Debating Society was held at the College on Saturday evening, Mr. H. P. O'Leary, LL.8.,. being in. the chair. The motion for discussion was, "That , a system of profitsharing is, and has been shown to be,, a satisfactory solution of tho labour problem." It was moved by Mr. V. B Willis, and seconded by Mr. T.i-Boyce. The opposition was led by Mr. R. Mason, and seconded by Miss W. Mellsop. Eleven other speakers topic part in the .debate, and the motion, on being put, was lost by 10 votes to 19. : Tho debate was judged by Mr. T. R. Fleming, M.A., who remarked that tho manner in. which the speakers'had' treated the subject made him suppose the members of the Society to bo a very conservative body. He placed tho first five speakers as follows Messrs. J. Mason, J. D. Smith, C. H. Taylor, T. Boyce, and"V. B. Willis. Miss W. Mellsop did not take part in the competition. . At the next of the Society the question for discussion is, "Which most deserves tho esteem of mankind, the poet, the statesman, or the warrior?" .
