The Wellington Centre has' allotted July 13 for a contest between W.' Gosling, - the '/: local feather-weight, and A; Gait, of Auckland. The latter is a boxer of reputation 'in the.'northern :city, where lie has ,a good record, comprising a 15jourid , draw with . Godfrey, and two defeats of Sanderson; (who lias appeared;here) in matches of two rounds'- • ' duration. . Gait'was desirous of .obtaining a match with Godfrey, but the committee decided that Gosling nearer his imark, and havo-put up a purse of £40 for the affair. The men are to-fight/at,9st.-.6lbi, the: winner to receive £30 and tho loser £10, and reasonableexpenses are to be allowed to each. For the datb vacant, September 1 -next, it is/proposed to arrange a match between Godfrey and Ted. Greeii, a bantam 'with a' big following on the other, side/; On the occasion of the Godfrey-Hanley. match' last •season, Greeny expressed his willingness to meet Godfrey, so I presume ho 'is well aware of the discrepancy in the '-weights, which,. however, • I cannot but think will prove an ' effective bar to'the men coming together. Godfrey has : refused to fight- again- underOst. 41b., and as Green is only Bst. 41b. the handicap is a large : one indeed. However, Mr. Corbett, the. Association's • represents- ■ tive in Sydney/"is to lie asked' to arrango matters.' if ' possible, and, if not possible, to recommend a likely opponent for Godfrey in lieu.of Green;' . ; ■ The Otago Amateur Boxing - Association will-hold-the Otago Boxing Championships oa Juno 10 and 11/ in the Garrison Hall; The following 'championships'.'- will bo ' decided Bantam weights,- not to exceed Bst. 41b. j feather-weights, / not to. exceed '9st.; light weights, not. to. exceed 10st. ; middle'weights, not 4;o exceed/list- 41b.; and-heavy weights, any weight eligible. The return match between) Tommy Burns and Bill Squires is scheduled for next Monday, at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea/ ' England. The stair turn at tho tourney conducted by'the Marlborough Association on Wednesday night was a bout between. Tim Tracy and E. Hurcombe, tho local instructor. As anticipated, Tim had no trouble in annexing'the stake, a purse of £50, but Hurcombe appears, to have made a good showing,- according' to tho Press reports.
