Mr. James L. Panning, secretary,.- wrote apologising for his inability to be. present,. ■ A'letter .was recoived' from the.'Secretary, of the Southland District Teachers' Institute with reference to the publication, -in tho . "Otago Daily Times" of February" 27, 1908, of an article, by '"Southland iTeaclier," on '.'Expenditure on Education in New: Zealand," ,and "also of an editorial dealing; with -the article. It was suggested that the subject might, bo brought prominently .before the notice of members of Parliament in the Wellington djstVict, and that the'editors of local papers mighty bo asked-to take the matter -up. There was little doubt, added the writer, that tjio rovelations of "Southland Teacher" would/ have a beneficial result on the_ matter of teachers' salaries during the ensuing session of Parliament. : . The president (Mr. Poster) explained that the article referred to had been reproduced by one of tie local dailies, and that , a number 'of copies had been taken, which had been-forwarded,, together with copies of tho annual report of tho New Zealand Educational Institute, to members of Parliament; There, wore still a few copies of the article available for Institute members. "Mr. Foster then rear] a most interesting paper on "A Comparison between the Public School Teachers' Superannuation. Act, and the Public Service Superannuation Act.".. This is reported elsewhere. '
