THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE ATHLETIC PARK.
V - A PROTEST. . V The ' action .'of .the'. City Council in regard to the 'Athletic Park was strongly criticised by mombcrs of tho Wellington Hockoy. Association at tho annual meeting last evening. . Mr. W. J. Organ, moved: "That the Hookey, Association protests •, against tho action of the City Council in consenting to negotiate with the Athletic Park .Company on behalf of tho Wellington Rugby Union to the exclusion of other sports bodies in Wellington,, and that tho. incoming, committee bo recommended to cooperate with other bodies to oppose the action of the Council." The secretary, Mr. W. E. Pearson, seconded tho motion. , Mr. M. F. Luckie said the Council had refused to .grant tho use of the Basin Reservo to tho Rugby Union because, it had already concluded terms with the la crosse clubs and the -Association football clubs. The Council had entirely disregarded the interests of the other two bodies concerned, -the Hockey Association and the Association football clubs. ' The Secretary explained that the use of part of . the Athletic Park was granted to tho Association on condition that certain Saturdays were to be reserved for the British and North 1 y. South • matches, and that tho hockey season must close on tho second Saturday in September to allow tho ground to be got ready for cricket. The City Council could not disturb these, arrangements' ; there was no doubt about that. • sir.,Partori: This is good .-news .to us;' The action of the". City"' Council cannot bo too strongly condemned. - Tlip motion was put and carried unanimously. ' ' ' " \
