SHAKESPEARE.LECTURE. The Kov. A. R. Osborn, of 1 Warrnambool, gave a popular lecture oh " Shakespeare—Mail " and Poet," in St. John's Schoolroom,.last evening. Thoro was a crowded The . locturo was preceded by a few words of intrp- 1 duction by Mr. William' Gray,'s Principal. of the 'Wellington Training College. ■ Mr. Osborn, after roferring briefly to' the dramatists who f immediately preceded Shakespeare, -gave/an .ac- \ count of the immortal master's' life, and., then t recited numerous portions;vfirit' of "As: You j Like It," .and afterwards of "Tha.Tenipest," j supplementing the extracts- by ■brifef summaries of the' connecting events: The lecture Was | illustrated by lantern slides; v ,anditwo ; songs t from the plays' treated "'Blow; Blow Thou , Winter Wind,' and"" Where the Bee Sucks," , were sung bySMiss E. Rash' and Mrs. Glover- " Eaton respectively. Miss .' Harvey: and' Miss Rash played the accompaniments'to the songs. 1 Mr. Osborn's treatment of .the plays showed ' a very sympathetic knowledge, and the lec- * ture and accompanying songs formed ia. most 1 onjoyable entertainment.. ■•. I i OPERA HOUSE.. ' I "The Earl and .'the' Girl" : made merry at ; the Opora House again last evening; and provoked another large audience to side-splitting laughter. To-morrow will see the finish of' one of the niost successful seasoiis played here by Messrs.
