AN APPEAL TO LABOUR.

'".Sir,—While I must congratulate Mr. liislop on his splendid success, which none of lis expected would bo so great, I regrot that in the bitterness of his feelirtgs lie shoiild havo spokon unkindly of his opponent. I recognise that some of Mr. Aitlton's friends hit our man . hard blows during the contest, and wo hit'back hard ones too, and that evened things up. When tho numbers went up it was time to shake hands and let tho bitterness dio out. Tho most pleasant feature of tho election to me, and to many others, was to-find that Labour is still a kghting fo'reo in New Zealand. ; ■ , Now is the time for Labour to assert itself. It has. proved its .strength, and while I realise-that a seotion of the capitalist class has made uso of us in tho Mayoral olection we also have mado uso of them. Unintentionally they gave us a rallying point. They gave the workers a chance of showing what they could do, and we. did. We can do without capital, but they, cannot win elections without tho votos of the, masses. Let Labour carry on the campaign from now the ganorabclections, let .them run their own candidates —working-men candidates, liono of your "friends of the working-man," but the genuine at least four of the Wellington soatS should be won by Labour. Let's nave a real rally, liko whe.n we put "Jack" Hutcheson at the top of tho poll.— I am, etc., • May 2.' GO IN AND WIN.
