0 ■ . NOTICES OF' MOTION. 1 . On 'Wednesday, May 13, the Now Zealand Secondary Schools Conference will open 'in tho' Boys' High School, Christchurch. Mr. George Hogben, M.A. (Inspector-General of Schools), will.'deliver an address on tho opening day.. It is expected that Mr. Tibbs (Auckland) Will follow with a paper on "Tho Relations between Secondary, District' High, and Technical Schools." v « The agenda paper, which- is not yet complete; xoutains the'following notices of motion referring to University Scholarships:— 1. That this conference respectfully suggests to the Now, Zealand University the desirability of revising the schedule of marks in the Junior University Scholarship, examination, with a view to placing the more important subjects 9n a footing of equality; to "that end, it, respectfully suggests that in any new schedule of marks, English, Latin, science, and mathematics be allotted an equal number of marks.— (Mr. ,T; D. Pearcd, Invercargill.) 2. (a) That the Senate of tho Now Zealand University he asked to amend - the statute for junior scholarships, so that the latter part of Clause 111 will read " and shall depend upon comparative excellence in English, and in not more than two (2) of tho following subjects." (b) That the Senato be asked to set apart annually-a certain number of scholarships for girls only, the number to depend upon the proportion of • boys and girls competing in each year. —(Miss Marchant, Dunedin.) 3. That, in tho opinion of tho conference, . the philological element in tho junior : scholarship papers should bo materially decreased. —(Mr. Morell, Dunedin.)
