Borden Harriinan, a largo number of'tho wealthiest ladies of New York have decided to prove to .the world tho falsity of the women' suffragists' taunt's that they aro mere butterflies, incapablo of taking a serious interest in the gravo problems of the day. "If wo do not care to agitate for the vote," they declare, " wo nono tho less have doeoly at heart tho social wolf aro of our poorer sisters.". In proof of this they have formed an organisation, tho members of which-will,bo.drawn mainly from tho ranks of. the " Four .Hundred," and who will go into factories, and cat, sleep, and work with tho working girls, with tho object of gaining first hand information as to tho way in which tho existenco of the latter oan be rondcrcd healthier and happier. , Miss Anne Morgan has already spoflt much time making herself personally conversant with tho conditions in glass factories, while Mrs. Joseph Medill M'Cormick, •'of. Chicago, has devotod her' ovonings this winter to acquainting herself with tho manner in which women.arc forced to work at nisht time. Tho efforts of the lady reformers, when they have acquired a practical knowlcdgo of tho problems the.v are about to investigate, will bo directed not to forcing fresh legislation, but, to convincing the great employers of iciiialo labour j>f the necessity; of reforms. . ■
