In 1906 tho Commonwealth Government passed an Act abolishing the rato of a halfpenny per word previously paid to tho Eastern Extension Company for messages transmitted by tho Tasmanian cables, leaving tho Company only tho minimum sum guaranteed. Tho Company is issuing iv writ, against tho Govornmont claiming damages equal to tho difference botwocn tho guarantco and the receipts s which would havo been realised if tho halfpenny por word rato had been continued. ;
