An explosion sank tho training cruiser Matsushima, qff tho Pescadores Islands, in Formosa Channel. . It is feared that two hundred persons perished with tho cruiser. The cruiser Matsushima was completed at La Seyno in 1892, and was credited with being a 17.5-knot'_boat. Her complement was 350. Her dimensions were: length, 295 ft.; beam, 50Jft.;-draught, 21} ft.; displacement, 4277 tons; indicated horse power, 5400. Her armament was oiie 12.5 in. gun, eloven 4.7 in., live 6 pounders, eleven* 3 pounders.
