ELECTION OF COUNCILLOR. The toast, " The Defence Council," was responded to by Captain M'Donald, of the Defence Department, who pointed out what the Defeneo Council indoing in the matter, of providing opportunities for, the population of the Dominion to take part in the future defence of tho country. "The Volunteer Forces" was proposed by Captain Ross, who spoke in high praise of the local military spirit of the people! Surgeon-Major Purdy responded to the toast. , HUTT VALLEY GUN CLUB. , For the Hutt Valley Gun Club's £25 handicap. shoot twenty-two shooters toed the mark, and there was good, shooting. J. Laurenson killed all his birds (13) with his first barrel. TV. Tullock .used his first barrel once only, and H. Jeiison, off 27 yards, killed all his birds. The above three shooters divided tho stake. TV. Tullock won' the trophy donated by Mr. A. F. York for largest number of kills with" the first barrel, open only to members of the Hutt Valley Gun Club. A. F. York, Wire Tokena, Ci. Cudby,' S. Scott, H. Hancock, S. Jensen, TV. TVolven, and TV. Buck killed 12 out of 13 birds. Mr. (A. Cudby then presented TV. Tullock with the trophy, on which tho competitors gavo three cheers for tho winner, and three cheers for the donor. A ten shillings sij-ecpstake. first miss out, was divided by Scott and Brasell, with 10 kills each, York being runner-up with 15 kills. This match was finished in tho dark.
