(Cross). j ' Mon Ami; was first to show out from Penates and Sir Frisco. Penates and Sir Frisco closed on Mon Ami near tho threefurlong post. A good raco in the straight, resulted in a,victory for 6ir Frisco by a little over a length, Yosami it poor third. Time, lmin. 18 2-sscc. '

NOTES AND COMMENTS. Aeolus was' withdrawn from the First Hurdles; for which Aorangi was sent out a hot favourite". Tho raco was a good thing for tho Merrhyep gelding, for after leading all tlio way, be' won easily by several lengths, Playmate did not jump as well as usual. . Aboriginal and Carissima were- withdrawn from the Waiwotu Handicap. Tho former was started in !the Thompson Handicap, and tho latter; in ..the Challenge . Stakes. Toa Tulii was in his best, form, and when tho barrier; went up ho commenced very well, and was in the, van all tho w'ay. When tho straight was reached ho was challenged bv Clanchattau and Waipa,ku, but ho was full of running, and won by more than. a length. AYaipaku did not get away as well as usual. Tho manner in which she finished suggested that sho was short'of windinpMip"gallop. (Jazoley did very well. Ho was with Toa Tuhi till the straight, .wherp ho was headed by !\Vaipaku, .Clpnchattah, and All Guns. Howover, tho imported horse had some reserve pace, and, had his'jockoy beeii smarter' \vith tho whip, hp would havo run Toa Tuhi much closer. All Guns showed 'excellent pape at fix furlongs, but stopped towards' the finish.

| Moil Ami and Yosami were tho gcrntchiiigg jn tho Silverstream Hack. Wharekura be-r gan very smartly and after going a couplo o( furlongs lie wjis a couplo of lengths in front, lie was caught by Wfiiletho and North Pojo noar tho straight, but |i« ran the' distance out woll and / was only ' beaten by hajf'a length. North-Polo did not too well, but appeared to bo finishing strong at tho end of tho journey.. Wailethe was always handy and v.'on nicely in'the .straight, Osiris was going splendidly when ho fell near the half-mile post,/ ; Neither horse nor rider was injured. Tho Libyan waslongths behind tho field throughout tho raqo. '

Thirteon went to the post for the Thompson Handicap. • '.Zinimermftn and Dawn wero bracketed on tho maohino and tho favourito ' selections. .-Gpld _Ori3st was next in demand, aind then' Sea' King, Gold Croat dashod to tho'front 1 at :tho barrior rise, but Sen King. was soon ivith him, and after going, twoffiirlpijjjg tho i soutliorn horso had got to thq.front,. Ho was in front till half way up tlio' straight' where' ho was tackled hy Sunboniiet.';. : Ho finished gpmoly. and made a it. Sunbonnet. was yiddon a iiicis and phs camo wjth lior usual torrino run at tho right end! Marguerite was novor -prominent. Zimmerman gave an inglorious display, and finished last. Stratapom was going on at the finish and might have had a say ill thp finish had tho distaneo.- beeh' a trifle longer.. Moriarty bef "f;an as'fast as usual but ho was right'out of it after, live fur.longs. Tangimoana was in .tho ruck throughout. Dawn was handy about two furlongs from honie but he was just beaten by Aboriginal a few yards from tho post. "

■ .The North Island Challenge Stakes was an easy victory for Diabolo, who won very qasily by half a dozen lengths. Gleneulloch, who was ridden by Goo. : Price', ran 1 much better than lie has done for-some time. Ho had to bo-ridden out to beat Cajissima, but he finished yeiy gamoly, Formativo .was well-backed, but occupied tho position from start to finish; Husbandman got well away and led for half a mile, but after that ho >yas right pf it. \ Only three horses contested tho Plun.ket Nursery. • Several good judges' expected Artillfirio to. run well in the soft going. She did not begin with erough dash, and though she got within a length of Flitaway, the latr ter appeared to have a lot in hand. Ro'osovelt was twenty lengths behind tho pair.

. Sea King was the only withdrawal from tho Railway Handicap. Ballarat' was badly, left at the start and never caught the field. Truganini got away best and was in tho lead until within a few, yards of the post. Motoa did not leave tho barrier smartly but hp< mado. up ground nicoly, ayd in a fii)o finish won by a bead. Martyrium ran yory badly, as did Cross Battery. ' ';

Tftitoko'fliul Virico did not go to tho post in the Tinakori Hack Handicap. Mon Ami was mado favourite but shp- made a., poor showing. Slio got all the best of tho start hut her chances wore all ; over when tho straight , was reached. Her stablcmat-o Penates appeared to bo going excellently ill tho last furlong but his joeko.v lost the reins when he drew tho whip and tho Ruenalf colt stopped to nothing. Sir. Frisco is a. much improved horso. The public have long been looking for a return of the form die showed at Hastings in the spring when ho ran second to Dawn. Now that the half-brother to Porirua has struck winning form ho should prove very usoful. Bliio Bell did not get away with the field and was a couple'of lengths ill the rear throughout;. Yosanii' was slow to find hor: feet. She headed Mon Ami aiid Blue Ribbon in the straight, but was a long way behind tho second horse..

Tho crack, three-year-old , colt Elevation, which was' taken to':Sydney a' month ago to race at the Kandwiek meeting, but which broke dolvn oiv the,', training track; arrived back in ..Wellington.- yesterday morning .in charge of J, -Farmer. S.; Heid, .who - .went over to i'l'de' the colt, was'-also a passenger by the Maheiio. :

Sunbonnet, ■ who dcad-hoatod Avith Scq. King in the Thompson. Handicap , j ; osWdaj% is engaged 111 the six furlong race', .on' Saturday, but _ after that s!io will probably be found racing in distance ovQnts.
