ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
KILLED BY A FALLING BEAM. : (BY TEr.EQBAFII— PBEBS ASSOCIATION.) Greymouth, April 29. Tho adjournocl inquest touching the death of Thos. Georgo Davies, killed by a falling beam at tho Railway Goods Shed Works on April 14, was resumed yesterday, whon the following verdict was returned: —"Tlmt the deceased, Thos. Goorgd Davies, was, on April 14, killed by a beam falling upon him, caused by decreased striking, with a sligo sledge-hammer, tho baso of tho derrick-polo, which was holding up tho beam, no blamo being.'attachablo to anyono." A rider was added that "tho jury are of opinion that more caro should bo takon in putting cleats around tho baso of tho derrick-poles to prevout thorn skidding." SUDDEN DEATH. Tlmaru, April 2D. John Rainsloy Jones, verger at St. Mary's Church for many years, and captain of tho Fire Brigado for somo years, died suddenly this morning. Ho was engagod in his duties in tho church, when ho was attacked by a fit. Ho rallied, but (lied whilo walking Homo. ' Whilst working near a stank of chaff in "D" shed on tho Queen's Wharf at 11,15 yesterday morning, a married mail named Thomas Ilickoy, residing at 53 Glnianeo Street, was injured through the stack collapsing and falling on him. Ho was pinned to the floor of tho shed, liut 'wns extricated by his mates. Dr. Henry was mimnioned, and on finding that the man was suffering from a slight concussion of tho. brain and an injured spine, ordered his romoval to the hospital.
