Mr. Haydon spoke in favour of tho contract system as against day, labour for borough works, and dealt with borough'finance at considerable length, He strongly favoured: improving the squares. - -.-A' Press-Association message states that the Palmerston Technical School Committee decided last night to inaugurate a movement' for the purchase of a site, uponwhich the Government will be asked to assist in building a suitable school for Palmerston North. Tho iTechnical School is a very large institution, but ;is housed .in rented premises in _ various parts of the town,. arid difficulty is found m securing accommodation 'for the increasing'number of students.
