The Manawatu railway authorities. report chat the traffic on their line yesterday was I much heavier than'on Easter Monday last year.: , There were.about ,500 passengers on each of the outward morning mail trains; 300 for stations between Paekakariki and Palmer-" ston; and, in all, 1000 for Johnsonvillb, Plimmerton and Paekakariki. . .Both the inward mail trains in the evening wore aij hour late on arrival at Palmerst-on. On. one there were nineteen cars and on the other fifteen. Between 9 p.m., and . 10.30 pinr. three specials'; containing in tho aggregate 1000 Volunteers, ware dispatched outwards. , The figures relating to'the passenger trafflo on the Government lino show 'the various trains wore also patfouised than; was the experience. on Easter Monday last year. No bitch of aay kind occurred and all the trains ran up to time. Over 1500 passengers were carried to stations beyond tipper Hutt, as against 1200 last year, and the, number of tickets issued for suburban stations was 3000, nearly 400 more than last year. The number of cars on the first three trains over the'lncline totalled thirty-five. The tramway traffic returns were not-avail-able, last night, but (traffic was heavy on all lines, particularly to Miramar, Island Bay, and- Karori.
