Chrlstchurch, April 19. Mr. Edward Dobson, formerly Canterbury Provincial Engineer, died this morning, ageil 91, Amongst tho works with which Mr. Dobson's name is connected is the survey of theCanterbury-West Coast Road via Otira Gorgo. He -was the author of several works on engineering and building, and took a keen interest in educational matters. . .Tho late' Sir. Dobson came to Now Zealand in one of the first four ships. Ho was poviiicial engineer for Canterbury, and. uii3 engineer for the L.vttelton tunnel. His son discovered Arthur's Pass, and the •dcc.n.s'.l superintended the work of carrying .the , '"jml over it. l:i Victoria, ho designed and engineered the (Jcelong waterworks, .and in England hp was one of the engineers for the bridge over the. Trout. One son is now City Engineer at Christchurch, and another 1 is engineer to Messrs. Nelson Bros.' Freezing Works, Gisborne.. One of his daughters is Lady von Maast, and the next daughter is Mrs". Hogben, wife of the Inspcctor-ijenenil of Schools. ' Deceased was the oldest monitor of tho British Institute of Civil Engineer's at the time of his death.
