CONFERENCE OF ORANGEMEN
INTER-ISLAND AMALGAMATION. • ■■ .Yesterday,, the forty-second: Conference of. the North Island Grand.Orange'Lodge was ■held at' tho Masonic Hall.Eighty delegates and officers were present, the R.W.G.M. Bro. Pethcrick occupying the chair, and R.jW.D.M. Bro. J. Aston being, the vicechairman. The following officers were on tho , platform:—R.W.G.M., N. 1.; . Bro.' Pethorick;•' R.W.G.M., ■ 5.1., Bro. Parsons; P.G.M.'s, 5.1., Bros. Revell and Carrick; ■6.5.;' ■ 0.C.A., '• Bro. Major Gilchrist; Bros.' King, Jarvis, . and Hartley; A cordial welcome was given to R.W.G:M. of South Island (Bro. Parsons), and to Major Gilchrist, secretary of the Grand Lodge Council of Australasia. . ':
After luncheon, Bro. Major Gilchrist, G.S. of tho- Orange Council of Australasia, gave an address on Orangeism, and was accorded a hearty vote, of thanks. ' '. ' , meeting discussed the proposed-pre-sentation to. the Rev. Dr. Dill Mackay, who is about to proceed to the Old Country, and it was decided, on the ; motion of Bro. jarvis, seconded by Bro. ' Hartley,- that, the Lodge's subscription be, increased, to-£5 ss. '; , : R.W.G.M.' Bro. Petherick then, gavo his address on tho working of the institution during his term of- office. Ho was accorded" a hearty; vote-of thanks..., '
A unanimous , vote' of thanks was ■ also given to Bro. Lindsay' tor the- manner in which ho has; carried, out the duties of Grand Secretary. . It' was . stated that during a period 'of Vfiffcen' months, three new Lodges •iad been opened in the North Island. Thero was a long discussion on the question of 'amalgamation with tho. A ohurch parade will bo held to-morrow morning.
