. TOWN UOABD MJEETING. 1 . The ordinary monthly; meeting of tho Town Board.was held on Wednesday night, Mr. J.'' W. Card being in the - chair. The balance r sheet for the year ended March 31 was pre- - sented, and accounts amounting to £90 13s. 9d. were passed for payment. Mr. W. Tinnoy : was granted a plumber's license. In rcsponse to a petition signed by .forty-six rate- • ' payers, it 'was 1 , resolved to take a poll -on : • May 11 on the question of rating on, unimproved value. The action of the Chainnan in. consenting to, the appointment of, one ranger, for the whole district was endorsed. Balancesheets from the Carpet Social Committee,? Fire Brigade, together with■ the: Domain Board's audited balance-sheet, were received. The services of tho Town Ranger are'to be . dispensed with. Messrs. W. Hodder and A. .Donald were deputed to frame a report on tho water reserve. The sanitary, inspector's report for the quarter was satisfactory, only one case of scarlet fever; haying occurred.; A report on the work done during the month was received. The Wairarapa Employers' Association forwarded a copy of resolutions 'passed,by that body in.connection with the labour dispute. A quotation of 2s. per yard ■ for crushing metal was received from Mr". H. M'Phee,- of- Carterton,... and ..referred to the Works Committee. : It was resolved to . clear the noxious weeds on the reserve ieassed by -Mrs. Ruane, and give her- the option of leasing the reserve until : the end of tne year. It-was- resolved -to inform 'Mr. YV. Donald / that unless he fremoves cattle and horses grazing on the Domain within 48 hours, his - lease wiir bo terminated. According to the lease, • sheep are only ipermitted to graze . oh the Domain. The Board then adjourned - until Monday night. - On Wednesday ovening Mr. J. T. M. . Hornsby, M.P., addressed a; representative gathering of Featherston electors, the chair being occupied by Mr. J. .W. 'Car A,'; ' marks of the speaker on the political questions of the day .were listened to attentively, and were frequently applauded.
