The Canadian Parliament -has passed the Immigration Restriction Bill, passed to mako good the technical defects which v.oided tho previous Ordcr-in-Council. The Bill provides that only immigrants coming v direct from, tho land of their birth .shall.bo admitted. An amendment to exempt those persons who havo served in the British Army or the Navy was rejected. , ' The Royal Assent has -been given to tho measure. ; When the Transvaal proposed to evict a number of Indians, it was found that'manv of thorn -were veterans of tho Indian army,' and somo had even ;served with -distinction; The fact carried considerable morftl weight at tho time, and probably sucgosted tho! moving of tho amendment which the Canadian Parliament has.rejected.',. > ' ■ : y.ji i
