The Newcastle Company is to. havo the right to retain, its present employees at Newcastle and Morpeth (on the Hunter River); provided that coastal rates are paid in lieu of a weekly wage. ' Preference to Unionists is to oporate after tho present employees have joined the Union or left tho companies' employ. The engineers agree that the coastal owners may, at their discretion, man not moro than six steamers between the threo fleets with engineers not oxceeeding twelve' in numbor. Tho remainder- ■of the steamers ; . shall be manned solely by members of tho Institute of Marine Engineers, who also shall have preference of employment in futuro vacancies. None.of-tho present engineers or employees shall be retained after the termination of their'present agreements. . Tho Merchants'. Service, Guild ' has stipu-lated-that, all steamers now out of commission . shall' bo .manned , by members of the Guild, who also , shall fill' vacancies as they occur. 7 , I . The agreement fixes tho number of permanent hands at the various wharves. ■
