ABOUT PIRI-PIRI.
A darker side of tho picture of Alfredton (s&ys our '.travelling correspondent) is the largo quantity of piri-piri (better known under the anglicised' name of " biddybiddy") in the district, somo hill sides being quite brown with. it. I had been told that this pest dies. out'.in coursc of timo, and mentioned it to some of my farmer fviends. They were not of the same opinion, and said they had noticed very littlo, if any,' diminution in a series of years. But I had practical demonstration of it. Tiro years ago I rode over from Alfredton to Tonui, part of the. route being across Mr. Girdwood's property, and I never in. all my experience saw such masses of piri-piri. In places it hung in festoons, six ' arid seven feet long; in others it grew in I a solid carpet. But when I wont over'tho' same route the other day it had almost disappeared, fino grass having taken its place, and, of course, tho carrying capacity of tho grass -was largely increased.
