RAINFALL AND GALE. - (IIY TELEGnATO—PRESS ASSOCIATION.') Auckland, April 12. Advices from Rnratonga, dated April 2, state that the month of March, which has just passed, holds the record for the greatest, amount of rain in ono'month for years past, a total of 22.2 Gin. having fallen 011 ■ eighteen days, with a maximum of 3.63 in. on'one (lay. The average for the month of March in the last ten years is B'.9sin. Tho total rainfall for tho first thrco jnonths of the present year 'is 1 32.-4 Gin., as against an averago of 28.82 in. for tho previous ten years. • • On March 15 ajid IG, ltaratciiga was visited by a sevoro northerly gale, the' barometer ! falling to 29.71. Tho wind was accompanied by a high', sea, which rolled into thu harbours. The schooner Vaite, ' which was moored in Avatiu Harbour, was for some time in danger of drifting from her moorings and going ashoro,.but luckily her wire ropes.held. The mean of tho barometer for the month was 29.956 in. The mean thermometer readings were as follow:—Mean maximum, 82deg.; mean minimum, 73.4t1eg.
