It is officially announced that Mr. Asquith's resignation as Chancellor of tho Exchequer lias been accepted by the King. Mr. Asquitli kissed His' Majesty's hand on receiving tho appointment of Premier and First Lord of tho Treasury. . "LESSON OF BY-ELECTIONS." (Rec. April 9, 9.35 p.m.) . London, April 9. Lord Lansdowne, who loads for tho Opposition in the House of Lords, speaking at the Conservative Club, said that the Government's Bills were tainted with tho spirit of vindictiveness, and were opposed to the general well-being. Tho-Government's financial policy, was likely to bring them to serious griof. Ho hoped that they would learn, from recent by-elections, that the country was disillusionised. The new Government, to bo formed ,by -Mr. Asquitli, had a great chance. The Unionists were willing to deal with education and temperance 'oii moderate and reasonable lines, and they wero ready to examine carefully, and not in an obstructivo way, any proposals that were conceived in a just and moderate, spirit. r . | SECRETS WILT, OUT. ..
