ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A "CAB STAMPEDE." (BT TELEGRAPH.— SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) Palmerston North, April 5 ' Owing to a stampede of several cabs and buggies at the Railway Station, on the arrival- of the Wellington train at 7.30 p m yesterday, Mrs. Gordon Reid, of Wellington;, was injured. Miss Martha Jones, of ■New Plymouth, had ribs on both sides oroken and one pei.etrated the lungs; her condition is serious. Mrs. Reid, however, will recover but she is much bruised. Iho body of a man named Joseph Tronder sixty-four years of age, was found in tho harbour underneath a wharf,this afternoon. Decoasod was addicted to drink, and was released from gaol only a few days ago after serving a sentence of soven days for drunkenness. ■ ' William Eddelstonc, a passenger by the s.s. Warrimoo for Sydney, had a lucky escape from serious accident just prior to the cfeparturo of the vessel on Saturday evening. Ho fell down No. 2 hold, but fortunately alighted on a heap of empty sacks. He was apparently none tho worse for tho fall. A married man, named Michael Scanlon, who resides on Grant Road, sustained a fracture of the loft leg on Saturday afternoon, through slipping on tho kerbing whilst returning from work.
