, SUBJECTS FOR DISCUSSION. /, A communication, was received by the Premier of Victoria on March 25, from the Premier of New South Wales,-stating that the telegraphic correspondence that had passed between- the States' showed that all the States. were ; in .agreement ,as to the necessity for holding a conference of Premiers without delay. Ho had addressed a formal invitation tv each Premier to meet in - Melbourne on Wednesday; April 22, 1 and to be accompanied by such of his. colleagues as might be essential to ensure a'full discussion, of the questions brought forward. Mr. Bent j>as approved of this date. The New South-Wales Government has suggested.the, following subjects for discussion Braddon clause, transfer of State debts, raising of loans in London, including underwriting, sale of stock by Agents General, stamp, duty charged on colonial stocks,' Stato loans; (competition among States), mutual services rendered by-States and Commonwealth, transfer of State properties to the. Commonwealth, Northern Territory, ■ transcontinental railway, quarantine, Federal -legislation,'- size of cornsacks, Federal Government's proposals concerning agriculture and iir.migration, proposed reorganisation of the Colonial Office, Tokio, Brussels, and Shanghai exhibitions, old ago pensions reciprocity, commercial agents abroad (proposed by Commonwealth), and pollution of the'Riyer Murray by dredges and mining operations. The only additional subject to those given above, which has. been suggested by the Tasmanian Government, is that of revenue payments to States.
