STENCILLED PORTIERES.

A woiqajyavhp has made a marked success, of. decoigtgy's work has in her studio at. present (sjjte.'h'e' "'Age ") three portieres of exceptional interest. All three are .of hessian. The first is dyed a' rich shade of purple, with the exception of a deep band towards the lower hem. This .band is left in the original colour of the hessian. Astenjillcd; (Msign ..representing globe artichoke fion'ws'ls shown in .this border, .the effect, of th'o •! silver ; loaves ..and purple .flowers .in conncsjiiSn \nth';the : dyed iessian being, pnrticu-lwly-fiappy. This second portiere shows quite cirigifial treatment.' A largo , pomegranate tree "in the . colour of the hessian is shown up ,by .the dyeing of the material' surrounding, 'tie design. Tho colour in question is dark and'as the material is :closely woven, lis appearance is excellent. The third portiere is also'in natural.colour, showing stenoifled conventional designs in. red, and fin-. ' ished with' a deep , red border. In Smoking rooms,' " dens," and nurseries these portieres, oithor. lined '.or unlined, are delightful, eax»citlly; during the winter months. - At the meeting of the Girls' Realm Guild to be.held this/evening at six o'clock in tlie ; Ma.ver'i room,,it is intended that arrangement! shell bo made f»r every member of each esntre to. undertake some special pieco of active work, and to this end it is ; hoped that every member will come prepared with suggestions for work ' she is willing to do, or ready to undertake the work suggested bv others.
