A* HEAVIER BROADSIDE. •Tho new battleships (says tho "Express") are. to embody many improvements oil tlie Dreadnought. They will not carry so tnr.ny heavy Runs as the earlioi - ship, but the weapons will ,be of a larger calibre than the Dreadnought's weapons—l3.6-inch as compared with 12-ineh —and tliey. will firo a shot weighing 12501b. against the smaller gun's 8501b. At the samo time a secondary battery of medium 'quick-firing guns will be added, a feature which .is .. entirely missing in the Dreadnought. . lieutenant Domvile, in the cssa.v which won the gold medal of,tho Royal United Servico Institution, advocated as an "ideal" ship one carrying eight 12-inch and sixteen G-incli guns, and it is not unlikely , that this plan will bo followed so far as numbers are concerned. In that case, tho new vessels would have a broadside fire of 83001b. 1 , against the Dreadnought's GSOOIb.
