Anderson, who is retiring,from the service of the Otago Education Board,. liaS been headmaster at North Taieri for forty-six years. . Mr. W. A.. Waters, who met with a motorcar accident on Lambton Quay a vweek ago, is still confined to his bed, but is progressing favourably towards recovery. Dr. Bowio, medical missionary in charge of the Ambrim Hospital, New Hebrides, arrived in Wellington on Saturday. He will leave on April 17, to return to the Islands via' Sydney. . Mr.! R. T. Noble Beasley, of Wanganui, who had his foot crushcd a fortnight ago, and had to have his leg amputated last week', is making satisfactory progress in tho Wanganui Hospital. ■ The following -are among the' visitors, at the Empire Hotel:—Mr. A. The Dunedin Society for Promoting the Health of Women and Children, telegraphs our Dunedin correspondent, has received a telegram from Lady Plunket announcing that Nurse M'Kinnon was/to be the 'first nurso in the Dominion to receive the Plunket Badge. . This 'is a special/distinction, an exception to the rule regarding certificated nurses having been made in Nurso M'Kinnon's case on account of her being a pioneer in the movement in regard to the preservation of infant life. Mr. J. A. ITutton, Chief Postmaster at Wellington, ,is at' present absent on holiday leave. His duties are being performed by Mr. R. B. Morris, who has just been promoted to bo Inspector of Savings Banks. Mr. E. C. Gannaway will succeed to tho duties of Assistant-Postmaster (vice Mr. Morris) this week. Mr; J. L. H. As a.result of the practical examinations hold in November last by Mr. Edwards, for the Trinity College, London, two exhibitions have been awarded to local candidates in tho junior division for pianoforte playing (says tho " Oamam Mail"). The oxhibi-, tions aro valuod at £6 6s. each, and have been won by Miss Eileen Cartwright, a pupil of Miss Cartwright, A.T.C.L. (Oamaru) with 07 per cent., and Miss Annio Lynch a pupil of the Rosary Convent (Oamaru), with 9(j per ceut. Six exhibitions are awarded over New Zealand, Tasmania, and Canada, of which fivo have come to Now Zealand (three f-o Dunedin, and two to Oamaru). The Plunket medal was won by a Dunedin girl, Dorothy Cowie.
