Sir, —Your correspondent "Economy" "in Wednesday's issuo on the above subjcct certainly,'deserves a word of praise if lie canprove to the satisfaction of tho public that . ho can livo on 3s. 9d. per' week, and do eight hours' toil six days out 'of the seven. It surely must be a misprint, and should be : that amount' per day. If correct,' as you have it, he is either a miser frying to do as 'some;cranks 'are in Wahganui, livo on air and cold water, or starving himself to save monoy. 1 If not Neither of these, he must be 'existing :in the interests of' the' employers. The, cheapest'.fruit, you can got is about threepence per pound at the present time, and no man can live on two pounds of fruit per 'day and do his'employer justice. ' The ' price :'or fruit, as a.dietj is, as a rule, too prohibitive.' There is no doubt the'cost of living lias gone up . 15> to" 25 pcr ; cent., within the last three years.' . J/et him follow up liis economic ideas, and.we shall probably hear of him departing " hence," or becoming a member :of the Porirua College of Economists.— I.am, etc., . , 'WORKER., - April 3,-1008.
