CHILD MILLIONAIRES.
—-— FEAST - WITH NEWSBOYS; IN LODGING--1 , 1 HOUSE.
.Quito oblivious, apparently, of the fact that oach is the: prospective owner of a fortune estimated at' £10,000,000) Kat-herine Livingstone Hammersley, and her . brother, Louis Gordon Hammersley,, niece and' nephew ,of Lilian Duchess of Marlborough, widow of Lord William.Beresford, were lately the life and soul of a party of newsboys whom, to the number of over 200 they entertained' at the Newsboys' Lodging House. ■ .They sang carols and laughed heartily at any street urchins' stories told by elder, people for the amusement of their ragged guests. . Katherine , Hammmersley, who . recently passed hor seventeenth year, is a- young woman with bright eyes, a clear-cut countenance, and sensitive mouth. She was prettily though plainly attired. Accompanied by her nurse and friend; Mrs;: Lowrie, she was shown over the building, and displayed becoming interest in the domestic arrangements of tho newsboys' home, bestowing high words of praiso at the clean, well-ventilated'dormito-ries and excellent laundry department. Altogether sheexhibited extraordinary knowledgo of domestic scionce.
■ Her brother, who is shorter ,in stature, spent most o! his time in the gymnasium, testing tho smoothness of the floor, exercising on tho rings, and comparing them with the fittings of his own private gymnasium in the Hammersloys' magnificent home in Fifth Avenue. His chief interest appears ,to he engineering, for he disputed at . length with'a scientific member of the party regarding the working of the laundry machinery. . If-England loves a lord, America is passionately fond of a millionaire. The first appearanoo of these young people, who are heirs to such enormous wealth, is accordingly watched by New Yorkers with intense curiosity.,- At tho conclusion of a gorgeous feast tho newsboys greatly embarrassed their .host and hostess by bursting into round , after round of cheering in their honour. • They are the orphan sou and daughter of Mr. J. Hooker Hammersley, whoso fortune they inherit, besidos that of their uncle, Air. L. ,G. Hammersley.
