PETONE JUNIOR CLUB. The annual report of tho Fetono Junior Club, which has been prepared by tho secretary (Mr. R. Greenwood), states that tho club now has a membership of 116, and new mombers to the number of 63 wcro introduced during tho year, whilo 30 resignations were received. Mr. W. L. Jonness's trophy for the member introducing tho most new members during the year has been won by Mr. C. S. List, who introduced eight. Various changes have takon place in the personnel of tho. executive since last annual meeting. Mr. W. H. Olson, who was elected secretary, had to resign, as ho had left the district, and Mr. R. Greenwood was elected secretary in his stead, Thirty committee meetings were held during the year. An orchestra had been formed, Mr. R. L. Martin acting as conductor, and the committee ■ hopes to revive practice during the winter. The committee wish to congratulate tho promoters of the •Athletic Club for their enthusiasm and tho impetus- it has given to tho parent club. A debating-society was formed, and held some very good meetings during the winter months. Visits wore paid by tho club to St. Peter's Club, Wellington, Petone branch A.S.R.S., Poneke Lodge (Druids), ;-.nd Petone Catholic Club, these bodies returning the visits. A ladies' evening proved a great success.
Negotiations were opened up . for tlio lease of the Social Reform Hall, ' bub satisfactory terms could not be arranged, and the matter is now in' abeyance. A concert was held in aid of, club funds on July, 5, and the sum of £11 was handed to the committee as a result. The library has been well catered for, some fifty volumes being added during the year, and tho number of books totalling 500. A suggestion was received from a number of members that the price of billiards should bo reduced, and this was given effect to. Various : tourneys have been held during the: year, the following being the prizewinners Quoits, A. Selwood and J. B. Bowman; cribbage, W. Taylor and J. D. Eraser; euchre, J. Thomson and E. Grant; billiards," E. Grant, P. A: Mason, M: Ryan, Hebbend, E. Starkey, and R. Pointon. The Club was represented in tho Crystal Cup tourney by Mr. W. "White. Tho annual football match with Petone Working Men's Club took place on September 28, and was won by 10 points to 8. Tho committee wishes to thank Messrs., Lynsky; Lodder, Taylor, Priest, J. W. Walker, Hardham, and Hickson for trophies presented during tho'year. , •
PETONE LADIES' HOCKEY CLUB. .The third annual mectijig of tho Petono Ladies' Club was held last evening in St. Augustine's Hall, Mr. ; J. W. M'Ewan presiding. A very creditable balance-sheet was presented.. The .secretary, - Miss ,E. Fleet, said that, after deducting £6 19s. lid, for expenditure, there was a credit balance of £7 4s. 9d. ' The. secretary congratulated the members' on , last season's, play.' Ten championship matches were played, and tho'Club had .-won six. Tho committee;-desired <to thank -Mesdames Bonthurno. and Ellis, and Messrs. Pirani (patron), -Saunders, M'Ewan, and War.ies (vice-presidents), Mr. Nicliolls (coach), and' the Petono Football ' Club 'for the nso of-..the. gymnasium. During the season a : pleasant garden party was held at Mason's, Gardens. The election "of : officers. resulted - as follows:—Patron, Mr. F. Pirani; president, Mrs. R.. C. It was decided; to open the season to-mor-row, on the Recreation Ground, and to liavo a social early in May. \ i.o.g.t. The weekly session of the Hopo of Petono Loijgo of 1.0. G.T. was hold in the Harifurly Hall last evening, Bro. T. Townsond, Chief .Templar, presiding. , Mr. Bongreerir Mrs. Ballard, Mr. Ballard, and Mr. Shirley Ballard wore initiated into tho Order by tho Chief Templar. Two new members wore proposed., Tho item was Brothers' Surprise," and the brothers, presented oach sister with a' small brooch : and 'handed round refroshiments. Tho following contributed to the programme:—Bros. Jowett, J. W. M'Ewan, Martin, J.„ M'Ewan,. Chamberlain', W. M'Ewan, Kerslake, Robertson, and Townsond.'' Next week there will lie an open night,. to which tho > public is invited.' Captain. Lepper, of tho Petono Fire Brigado, who was asked' to test tho efficiency of; members of the' local railway workshops' brigade, sounded tho workshops' fire' alarm on'i Tuesday evening. Mr. Lepper was; very pleased .with, the way they responded to tho call,-thu3 proving that tho brigade could',be relied on. to moet any emergency, although some of its . members lived a good distanco from, the shops. .
A young fellow named Hickling, employed by Messrs. Dimock and Co. at Ngahauranga, had twoi ribs broken yesterday by falling through a trap door. A doctor was called ,from Peton'e, and , attended .to the injuries.
