PASTURES MAKING- HEADWAY.

In reply to a query by our Wairarapa correspondent, a representative of tho Lands Department stated that ; the. new pastures wero shooting splendidly in the districts recently traversed by fire.and afterwards sown' with grass seed. In some areas, especially in the Bush Districts, it Was difficult to believe from the sight of the richly green. carpets that theso blocks of land had been.''only a short time ago sheets of blackened wastes. Farmers were themselves as well satisfied, and tliere was littlo room for dotobt that the big bush fires will result in' an indirect benefit' to the districts wherever they touched. That was so far as the pastures wero concerned. .Loss of stock by flro was, of course, a direci loss to producers.
