Institute. 1 ' The work of'.the school'was: divided . into four branches— L the physical,', social, educational, and roligious. Ovor ono hundred : boys took advantage of the;physical training which.was provided at tho Institute, and tho average attendftnee at the classes was over fifty. Among other subjects taught'iii this'department wore swim'ming, life saving, cricket, 'football, gymnasium work, military, drill, ! ambulanc.o - work, 'etc. .On the.social'side; tneiy ""Te concerts, illustrated addressed, gariiea, .Many .boys who had to g0..t0 ..work to assist to .maintain thomselyes .received, instruction ill ■various .subjects in. tho evenings. Thoy had 'also access to a library, which he hoped would increase' in size as the became 'greater: - The religious side, .was, not allowed to ' - take, ; such. undue as might interfere with' the level . working, of tho Institute. Dr. Chappie congratulated all concerned on the'prbgress which' was', being nWde. He felt that":a much-larger building than the one,at thoir'disposal v/as reqiiired. Ho had observed in-.tho report'that-pfpyisidn bad been .mado for. the teaching of :?wimniing: 'No'other oxerr icise gave a better, reward.- than swimming, arid,' okcepting perhaps' singing, afforded greater protection against consumption and other diseases. Boys and girls who had learned swimming bad easier and greater expansion of the chesty than those wlio could not swim. . What, was badly'needed was largo central baths.; .
