A. sharp shock of earthquake was felt locally at a few minutes before 10 o'clock on Saturday night. It was felt by evoryone in the Opera House, and there was quite a tniriute's pause before the excitement died down enough to allow the dialogue between, Messrs. Flemming and Homewood, to bo continued. The shock was'preceded somo five seconds or so by a Blight tromblo, also distinctly felt by the occupants of the galleries at the Opera House. hliramar qn Saturday might well hare been called the playground' of Wellington. Hundreds of footballors—Rugby and Association—journeyed * out ,by car, steamer, brake, and cycle to indulge in tho.first gameß of 1908. Hockey and lacrosse followers were also there in full forcoto participate in. the opening of their respective pastimes.
