EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The 'Mayor (Mr. F. G. Bolton) and Councillors, Danks, < Foley, Howden, M'Kecgan' .Robertson, and Shortt were present at tko mooting of the Eastbourne Borough Council,' ii6ld at Muntai 'on' Saturday evening. 1 , '• A, deputation waited on the Council ,to ■that repairs should .bo mado to Rona Street, taken'for securing improvements -in the:postal service and in. the ferry wharfage arrangements.. The' Mayor having replied that the,matter- of 'Rona' Street was to , be' considered that evening, and indicated tho steps .that'would be.taken in,-the other matters,': the; deputation .withdrew!/ . •'-■•'lt. 'was resolved:— I "That tho. Council's seal: be affixed/to tho deed'of covenant between tho Council and the Wellington Harbour Board with respect to the llona Bay culvert.", •:; " ■' .'--iV'- ■■ ''. ,- : A. sub-committee, consisting' of 'Councillors Bannqtyne, Danks,' Foley, : M'Keegan, Robertson, and Shortt, was appointed to deal with defects in. the present street lighting service; if necessary in conference with the Clerk, the. lamplighter, and the Kitson Light Company's expert. , - • v The Ranger 1 -was; empowered 'to -impound at'the Hutt any wandering stock, the, ownership! of which lie could riot asoertain, : llio Clerk was directed to draw the ■attention.of horseoTraers to' By-law, 35, making it ari-offence to driveior rido on the footpaths. The Mayor,was empowered to take further steps regarding an, expert report • upon a water supply, for tho borough. The Clerk reported that he. had called upon five property owners to remove fences, that, had, been found to encroach upon the public road. One had been remedied.' It'was resolved:—"That, if the fences are not removed, .the owners will be.notified that, the Council, will the work and >cbargo tliem with cost." \ '•'■ , In regard to the Hutt Bridge, it was resolved:—"That the Clerk return to < fche Wellington City Council the, draft agreement re the Hutt- Bridge/ arid point out the apparent omission of provision for access to the -eastern side, which the Council regards as essential." ,■

The Makara County Council notified its decision- to. join with the Eastbourne Borough in citing a case for the Supreme Court with regard to the, adjustment of accounts with Hutt County. Tho matter , was;-reforred to the' borough's solicitor. , v ■' L ■ With respect to. aletter ..received from Hutt Park rasldng''. reconsideration of decision, not to i;contributej'.'advance to the oommittce, it !was _'decided oira close division:—" That letter, 'be /received, and acknowledgment sent regnstting Council cannot see its way to contribute." : Councillor Darilcs then gavo notice; _of /motion- for. next meeting that tho rtisolution .be' rescinded. The following resolutions were carried:— "That Mr. -Mason .be :em])loyed v as.engineer for tljo borough -upon .'terms to be arranged with him by tho Clerk/'; '.'ffThat the mortgage of £220 on tho borough, released." "That purchaso of Mr.,Weddo's;,:sectiori at £63 bo made, tho Clerk being'authorised to comploto and liavo a transfer " prepared." (This land will bo utilised for. right-of-way and drainago from main road. to beach at Muritai.)

Mr. j. Coombo's offer of terms for an electric light installation in tho borough was held -ovor to next, mooting. ■' 1 Public works—Tho Clerk-and foroman reportwl upon proposed works:—Repairs to Roria Street (estimate, £21 155.), adopted-'-repairs ,to right-of-way east of Rona Street (ostimatc. £9), jidoptcd; improvement, Villineaux Street (estimato,, £55), held -over. It was also resolved to improve the provision for storm water near Ma ire Street.
