Thompson, Land -Purchase Officer of the Public Works Department, has notified that ho intends retiring from the service- on June. 30. : Mr. Thompson has served' the Department, for' about 24 years. >He was promoted from a clerkship- to his ■ present office on the death of Mr. Thomas M'Kay, ten or twelve years ago. ;At the Poi'irua Mental Hospital yesterday afternoon, Dr. Barron, who has for eleven mpnths occupied the position ,of assistant medical officer of that institution, a post he is now resigning, was invited to meet his fellow-officers and deceive'a token of their goodwill .and' esteem. . The presentation, which consisted of a case of razors and silver shaving mug, was. made by Mr 1 . Barnes, head attendant, who spoke of Dr. Barron's many good qualities, and referred to the harmony' whioh had existed among them, and to the regret felt by the whole of his associates 'at the separation, about to take place.
