SUNDAY- SCHOOL ANNIVERSARIES.
BROOKLYN BAPTIST. The Brooklyn Baptist Sunday School has been commemorating tho most successful year in its 24 • year?' / existence. Tho anniversary services, held in Fulford's Hall on Sunday, were very largely attended, the building being packed in tho evening. Tho morning service was conducted by tho Rev. A. Dewdnoy, who gave an objcct address to tho childron. . In the afternoon tho llev. J. J. North conducted the service, and in tho evening tho Rev. A- Dewdney spoko on tho text " And Ho set a littlo child in the midst of them." .The singing of special hymns by tho children, under tho conductorship of Mr. John Nicol, was a feature of the services. Miss Beavis was at tho piano and Miss Keblo at tho organ. The tea and public meeting in connection with the anniversary v/ero held last evening, in Fulford's Hall. There was a crowded attendance at tho meeting. Tho annual report stated that the year' had been one of the .most eventful for a' long period. It was.commenced with 140 scholars, inclusive of Bible classes, and by.. December the attendance reached 159, tho highest for over three and a half years. Since then it.had been increased to 170, and it was hoped to reach 200; before long. The scholars had done well, 'both in tho Baptist Union and the local Sunday School Union examinations held during the year.- The. prizo list for school -marks ; far surpassed last year's heavy list,"',7o scholars having qualified for prizes by gaining 85 per cent, of tho possible marks. Christmas presents to the value of £7 had been sent to India for the 1 children in tho mission hospital. The prizes were distributed by the Rev. A. Dewdnoy, and, tho singing of tho children was again most enjoyable. . Mr. T. F. Thompson, superintendent of the school, was presented by tho scholars with a Bible and hymn books, suit-ably inscribed. Mr. Dewdney roferred in glowing words to',Mr. Thompson's enthusiastic work for the school, and the scholars gavo him' vigorous cheers, and sang, spontaneously, "For He's; a Jolly Good Fellow."
Mr. John Nicol, who has been prominently connected with" the'school for somo 20 years, and was responsible for the high standard of the children's singing, was presented with a gold pendant.
PRIMITIVE METHODIST, DONALD M'LEAN STREET. , ; Tho anniversary services of tho Primitivo Methodist Church, Donald M'Lcaii Street, were crowded on Sunday last. The-Rev. C. A. Sims preached in the morning, tho Rev. H. Daniol in tho afternoon, and Rev. J. Cocker in tho evoning. Tho annual tea and public meeting will be hold to-night, when tho congregation will also say good-bye, for a term, to Mr. Cocker, • who leaves for England to-morrow to represent ;tho denomination in New Zealand at tho centenary conferenco of Primitivo Methodism to bo held shortly in London. .
