MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
LAST NIGIIT'S MEETING. - The ordinary meeting of tho Miramar Borough Council was held last night. There were present the Mayor (Mr. C. .T. Crawford), and Councillors Bell, M'Leod, Brodie, and Chase-Morris. Leave ,of absence was granted to Councillors*. East and Witt. It was resolved that 'ratepayers be granted the use of the road roller at a charge of 455. per day.
: The Council decided to fence off the 1 main south drain in Princes Street, to prevent further damage by horses and cattle. - Messrs. Skerrett and Wylie. stated that they had been instructed by . Mr. A. R. Hislop to write to tho Council with reference to a claim made by him upoii tho Council for JC2S, for ; damage, alleged to have been done to his property at» Ivaraka Kay through storm water trom Onoliunga Road having been turned thereon by channels made by the Council's surfacemen.- Tho matter was left in the hands of the Towia Clerk.
The Wellington arid Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board wrote, stating that Miss lurk, official visitor to the Wellington, Benevolent Institution, had been appointed an inspector to visit all cases of charitablo aid. Ho asked that for her guidance a list of recipients be prepared. The Mayor, in moving that .the •request be granted; stated that there was only one recipient of relief in the Borouph. . /.The Engineer to the City Council reported thtit drays oh road construction work in the borough were using the tramway track, and damaging it in places. The Clerk was instructed to take steps to have the practice stopped. ' V , ■ ~ , _ 'The Tramways and' Electrical Engineer to the. City Council reported that several , arc lamps. had been. damaged along the" Seatoun and Miramar routes., Starting from the Seatoun terminus lie found that every incandescent lamp and shade in the tunnel was smashed. From the tunnel tq the cross road that leads off to "the golf links the 'arc. lamps on poles S-13, :51, '59, G9, 79, 80, and 93 had outer globes smashed,- all indicating that tftojhad been broken by.'stones thrown from the Seatoun side.. One lamp on'polo 79 was badly broken. Councillor Chase-Morris moved, and Councillor Bell seconded, that a. reward of c-620 be given to any person who, within a month,; gives, information which ;will lead to the conviction of the offenders.
The Wellington Football Association applied for tho use of Seatoun Park during tho en-suing-season. It was decided that the writers be granted the uso of the Park on the usual terms,, and that the 'W.R.F.U. be informed that; in view of prospective' improvements to the Park, their offer had to be declined.
The Public Works Committee recommended that shelter sheds , bo' erected at Miramar North terminus, Miramar-Avenue, and corner of .Worssr Bay, .at a cost not exceeding £75 each, that the erection of a tramway shed at the Seatoun terminus be authorised, at a cost not exceeding £2UI); that part of section 135 E»;e Run be acquired for street widening purpose. The report, was adopted.. v Accounts; as follow, were passed for- payment:—District Fund Account, .£270 11s. Id.; Tramways Loan Account, £118 d's. 9d. •
