OBITUARY.

Seldom, if over, in Hastings has there been' such footings of-.widespread and general sorrow as were manifested this morning on the announcement of tho death of Mr. W. C. Maddison, who has boon a. prominent figure in tho life of tho'. town for tho past twentyseven years. Thodeceased always identified himself actively with matters pertaining to tho welfare of Hastings. ;He practically established tho firo brigade and the Hastings Band, and ho was a mombor of tho Borough 1 Council for many years, and his opinions on municipal matters were always eagerly sought after: He was also a respocted membftr of tho liiccnsing Bench'. Bowling circles wijl suffer a serious loss by his death, as ho was a most enthusiastic player. Ho took a ' keen interest in educational matters, and he was. an.energetic member of tho School Committee, being elected to tho chairmanship of that body on tho resignation of Sir Win. Russell somo years ago.' He was also a member of tho Education Board until his resignation a short timo ago.
