HOSPITAL BOARD.
: The; Wellington' Hospital . Board met yesterday iriorning, : when there -were present: Messrs. J. P. Luke (in- tho chair), R. C. Kirk, F. ,T. Mooro, and. J. W. M'Ewan. .The Chairman'said that'th'e funds showed a credit balance of £950 10s. 6d., but there were accounts to „ pass amounting to £1783.135. lid., which would make a debit balance 'of ■ £833 ,3s. sd.'' There would bo £2875 duo.from local-bodies on April 1, and the same amount; from' tho Government, and in - tho' meantime'-it- would.. be • necessary .to carry ,'on "by ■ means' of" an-, overdraft. Tho accounts .were passed for; payment.. The Levin Borough ..Council' wrote asking why. .their. lpvy ; was increased by 50 per cent, while thosq of other, bodios wore reduced. The ; treasurer .'(Mi." R. C. Kirk) said he found that the rateable value of tho borough of Levin had increased by 93 per cent.,, and that'accounted for the-increased levy. Ho had . replied accordingly. The treasurer's action was.confirmed. ,
It was resolved to make inquiries regarding chemical fire-extinguishing : pumps for the Otaki Sanatorium, the Chairman and Treasurer to purchase the' same, if - the • prico is reasonable, .The Chairman .reported that the final payment- on the site for a new hospital at Lower Hutt-iad been made, and the' liability was extinguished. : Miss; Scaly, matron of the Otaki 'Sanatorium and; Hospital, was granted extended leave' of absence on account of illness in her family. The matron reported that three patients had been discharged since Christmas.
